At the Hawk Agency we understand that our business is service. Claims often represent a traumatic time in the life of our customers. Our job is to come alongside and be your "friend in the insurance business" during these stressful events. We're here to see that you receive a fair and swift claim settlement to restore your property and your peace of mind.

Below are some general tips that may be helpful in the event of a claim:  Just always remember: it's always best to take pictures immediately after the incident with the following documentation:

  • WHO

  • WHAT

  • WHEN

  • WHERE

Property claims:
Protect yourself first! After that, take the necessary measures to protect the insured property from further damage. Reasonable expenses incurred to protect and preserve the property after a covered loss are reimburseable (above your deductible). Emergency repairs should also be made to protect remaining property or prevent injury to people.
Separate the damaged from the undamaged items.
Make a list of the items damaged and include the item's age and value
All theft losses must be reported to the police as soon as possible.

Liability claims:
Observe details at the scene of the accident and note what may have caused the accident (did hazardous conditions exist or did the injured party cause the accident)

At the minimum, get the following details:

  • Date, time, location of the accident.

  • Name, address and phone number of injured party.

  • Names of employees and supervisors on duty at the time of the accident

  • Names, addresses and phone numbers of any witnesses.

If you are sued and receive a "summons", make note of the date and time and how you received it and contact us immediately.

Workers compensation claims:
(injured employees)-employers report filed within 8 hours of the accident.

Automobile claims: Do not discuss responsibility for the accident at the scene. Advise the other parties that you will turn the claim in to your insurance agent for handling, and give them your insurance information.
accidents causing either bodily injury or property damage in excess of $500 must be reported to the Department of Motor Vehicles within 10 days by filing a SR-1 form that the attending police officer should provide.

Get the following information:
Witness names, addresses and phone numbers.

This is VERY IMPORTANT!
An unbiased 3rd party witness to the accident may make the difference between being charged at fault and not at fault.
Insurance information from the other party including agent and company names and phone numbers.

  • DATE, TIME, PLACE

  • HOW THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED

  • NAME, ADDRESS, DRIVERS' LICENSE & PHONE NUMBER OF ALL PARTIES INVOLVED

  • DESCRIPTION, LICENSE PLATE NUMBERS & NAME OF REGISTERED OWNERS OF ALL VEHICLES INVOLVED.

  • OBTAIN INFORMATION FROM ALL PARTIES INVOLVED
